2022.01.24 04:38 Pretentiousprick3 Some Awesome Protean Ideas that I think will make the game way more enjoyable.

Extraction is awesome and I love the game, but here is some ideas I think would make the boss fight a lot more intense and enjoyable. Also these ideas are meant to make them harder, which is why I think the protean boss fight should be an extra mission instead of a usual mission that the players can choose to go into after completing all the missions. It's like a secret/bonus boss that the players voluntarily choose to fight in order to challenge themselves or earn cool rewards.
Alibi: Instead of having separate clones that splits off from her that attack players, what if we added something like a mirage ultimate. Once Alibi is below a certain HP threshold, she suddenly splits into like 6 or more clones, each has a unique behavior, and the players need to use clues that requires some investigations and cannot be scripted to find the real alibi and perform a takedown to finish her off. If the players arent able to find the real one in time, then alibi steals the health from those clones and deals more damage afterward.
Sledge: I like the lightning aspect of sledge, but I don't think it is cool nor interesting enough. I think he should be way more aggressive, more punishing, and have more projectile attacks or traps. Something like linking players with electricity and if these players don't get far enough from each other or close enough the lightning discharge and stuns the players. He should also just stun players more with his electricity.
Smoke: His gas should be covering a large portion of the map, so players will have to carefully maneuver around the map while trying to avoid his gas. It will be like a maze where the walls are his gas. In addition, he should have different types of smokes in different phases. He can have a lot of fog that blocks out vision in the early phase, but then switch them to slowing smokes that will slow the players down so he can catch up, and then to damaging smokes that will hurt the players once they are in contact.
Extra: If lion was ever to be a protean, he should have a thing where when he will signal, hinting at players to be sneaky, then he will have periodic scans where he will slow down and listen/look for players and the players cannot move in this phase or it will be a very damaging blow. Have techanka protean be a protean that breath fire and turns the floor into magma temporarily. So it will basically be the floor is lava. Vigil protean will just be the protean being low hp but invisible and if the player doesn't hear or see his footstep or whatever, they will get a jumpscare and lose hp.
I Know these ideas might be really hard to implement or too much to handle, but I think the game should pose more of a challenge to the players and these mmo type boss moves can spice things up a lot. Currently the bosses all feel like bullet sponges that teleport and tries to run at you very slowly with very little variation in playstyle. I think the game can be great, and I wish it to succeed.
The singularity is such a ridiculous idea already, I doubt these things will be an issue for lore tbh:)

2022.01.24 04:37 WorkerMotor9174 Is it true that standards now are much lower than say, 5-6 years ago?

I'm sure someone has already posted this, I just wanted to give a students perspective from someone who graduated HS somewhat recently.
The US has long been falling behind in academic rankings globally. And honestly, as someone who moved here from the UK aged 11, it's really easy to see why.
Maybe this isn't the best example, but I moved to the states when I was finishing up elementary school. Coming from a UK public school, I was in the weird spot in having just graduated 6th grade in England but having to enter the US version of 6th grade (I think cause we start a year earlier?). In any case I was the usual age for a 6th grader, in fact i was younger than almost all my classmates.
My parents took one look at the public school system (we didn't live in a suburb) and decided I wouldn't learn anything in that environment. Bars/cages on windows, what looked to be blast doors at the entrances, I had no idea inner city public schools were literally built like prisons. They didn't have the money to shell out 40k or 60k a year for some prep school/proper private school, so I went instead to a small catholic school for one year (so I could test into a good public middle school).
The standard of learning was an absolute joke. I know it's unfair to rag on a small school which wasn't even public, but they did their very best to follow the curriculum and even went above and beyond grade level. There were times I'd be handed what the teacher called "8th grade math" and it was like solving the most basic linear equations. This is taught in 4th or 5th grade in the UK.
Some kids didn't know the multiplication table for Christ's sake. Writing in cursive was also seen as this arcane task, in England they literally start teaching it pretty much as soon as kids start writing (1st and 2nd grade). Same goes for the metric system. What is so complicated about a decimal measuring system that it can't be taught until 6th grade? It's 100x simpler than the outdated medieval system we use here.
Its worth mentioning the public school I went to in the UK was nothing special or remarkable. It was not a target school or a place kids had to compete to get in. If you lived within the catchment area you just signed up.
I always did pretty well in school, especially in certain subjects like history and math and science, but I wasn't some child prodigy or anything like that. I was far from being one of the Mensa kids you see on TV sniffing books.
I was ranked towards the top of my class of about 30 kids in elementary school (doesn't mean much imo). I was up there, but there were always 2, 3, maybe 4 kids smartebrighter (and better behaved) than me in the classroom.
Those kids all got into the elite private schools (you have to test to get in and each school has its own entrance exam). I was waitlisted for one and choked the interview on the other. Blanking on the definition of succulent as a 5th grader haunts my memory to this day. The worst part was I fucking knew what it meant, it just wouldn't escape my mouth for some reason and of course the second I left the interview room it came to me.
Anyway, I arrive at this US school (which was considered a good one especially for a catholic school, had great reviews online). The standards there were a complete joke. I know it's only one school, but to my knowledge the others are worse. Kids acted as if I was some child genius or mythical figure, when that just wasn't the case. I ended up with over a 100 in all the classes without really trying. The homework took me like an hour to complete at the very most.
It was a nice feeling to just show up and blow everyone else (even the previous 2 smart kids) out of the water (sorry if this comes off as bragging but theres no other way to describe it really). The thing is, after a while I just felt I wasn't being challenged. It was too easy and honestly no fun. The teachers kept having to give me and 2 other kids extra work packets because we'd finish the regular coursework in like 1/3 the time everyone else did.
It was a weird feeling. I felt treated as some sort of alien just because of the fact I had learned pretty much the entire curriculum not one but two or three years ago. I could tell other people were jealous. I didn't try to be a teachers pet but that's what naturally happens when you are doing well in every class.
I didn't need to learn how to divide properly since thats taught in 3rd grade. I didn't need to learn how the metric system worked since that is all they teach in Europe.
The only class that had new material was science and social studies when we learned about American history. The only thing I knew about US history when I arrived was that Obama was president. I still got like a 104 in that class. I just couldn't believe how much higher standards were in the UK.
This seriously worries me. I'm nowhere near old enough to be harping on about "back in my day school was tough". I'm not even out of college.
If the pandemic has forced admin/schools in general to lower standards even further, I seriously wonder what is going to happen in 10 years time when these kids enter the workforce. How are any of them going to hold a job? I know many people are self employed now and that's great, but if Jimmy can't write proper paragraphs at 19 or use basic algebra, what chance is he going to have in such a tech focused economy?
What are these people going to do?
As someone not quite in the "gifted" group that went to a UK elementary school, I was shocked at how much lower grade level standards are when I moved to the US.
It honestly felt like a scene out of Idiocracy- I wasn't even the best or 2nd best student in the UK and all of a sudden I was hailed as a genius (which I am not btw).
Also, none of this is teachers' fault. I know everyone's hands are tied between admin and school boards and parent meetings all that.

2022.01.24 04:37 discreetlog Best time to drink water relative to a meal? (factoring in kidney stone prevention)

I've read that it's best not to drink a lot of water just before a meal or within an hour after, in order to preserve stomach acidity for digestion.
However, as someone who has had a kidney stone recently and has a family history of kidney stones, I wonder whether not being hydrated during the time when my body is processing food will increase the formation of stones.
What do you think about this issue?

2022.01.24 04:37 kaktusz2571 Whedon vs Trio hot take

The title is intentional, because I'm sure, with a fandom as active as this one, someobody might have come to the same conclusion as well, but. In light of this recent article with the Vulture where it says:

(...) he quickly added that he had felt he “had” to sleep with them, that he was “powerless” to resist. I laughed. “I’m not actually joking,” he said. He had been surrounded by beautiful young women — the sort of women who had ignored him when he was younger — and he feared if he didn’t have sex with them, he would “always regret it.”
Is it at all possible, that after Whedon was more or less out of the show, and focused more on his other stuff after season 5, they came up with the Trio as villains so that they kind of were like a take on this kind of behavior? Even if he had his hand in creating them, and control over how they were used in season 6, the above quote makes him more than a valid candidate to be one of Jonathan, Warren and that guy... Tucker's brother.
